James Ignatius Conboy, PT

 

James Conboy attended Denver University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree before pursuing Physical Therapy at the Colorado University School of Medicine. He worked as an Athletic Trainer for Denver University and as the chief of Physical Therapy for Livermore and American Lakes Veterans’ Hospitals before spending the remainder of his career at the United States Air Force Academy.  Jim served as the Head Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist for the United States Air Force Academy for 43 years. In that time, he was inducted into the National Athletic Trainers’ Hall of Fame (1980), the RMATA Hall of Fame (1994), Colorado Sports Hall of Fame (1998), All American Football Hall of Fame (1997) and awarded the Pioneer Award (1990). Presently, a scholarship is awarded by RMATA each year in his name. His family notes that Jim chose Athletic Training to remain as close as possible to athletes and sports as they take pride in the memories provided by former players, coaches, and friends. Jim’s family includes his wife Jeanne Mulligan Conboy and children: Daniel, Kevin, Erin, Dineen, Brian, Conan and Megan.
