EXCELLENCE IN ATHLETIC TRAINING IN COLORADO HIGH SCHOOLS
Application for High School Athletic Training Program Application for Student Athletic Trainers Past Winners of the Excellence in Athletic Training Award
I. Established to recognize outstanding high school certified athletic trainers and their athletic training programs in the state of Colorado. A. Through financial assistance it is a goal of the award to impact these programs in the following: 1. Prevention and care of high school athletic injuries. 2. Education and training of high school students pursuing a career in the athletic training profession or other health related fields. 3. Provide certified athletic trainers with more assets to perform their duties.
B. Funds will be presented to the award winners to be utilized for supplies, equipment or educational opportunities to improve the athletic training program at their school.
II. Who can be apply: A. Any Colorado High School that is a member of the Colorado High School Activities Association and has a Certified Athletic Trainer as a member of their athletic staff.
III. The Award: Part 1 A. $1500 donated to the winning high school’s athletic training program. B. Winning program’s head athletic trainer will be guest for the day and at a game of the Denver Nuggets. C. 2 Awards of $1500 each will be presented by Jim Gillen of the Denver Nuggets. ($250 will be awarded to the other 2 finalist) D. Awards will be announced and presented during the month of March in conjunction with the “National Athletic Trainers Month” E. Awards will be presented during a Denver Nuggets Game. F. Certified Athletic Trainers and Student Trainers of winning program will be given a tour of the Denver Nuggets Athletic Training Facilities.
IV. The Award: Part 2 A. 10 - $200 Scholarships awarded to high student athletic trainers to be used for Student Trainer Workshops at NATABOC curriculum schools during the summer. B. Student must be recommended by either their supervising athletic trainer a coach or faculty member from their school C. Students must complete an entry form and complete an essay with a Sports Medicine theme. D. Students must be assisting as an athletic trainer at their respective high school, with an interest in pursuing a career in athletic training.
IV. Application Process: Part 1 A. Application forms and information can be obtained from web sites of the Denver Nuggets, www.nuggets.com, and the Colorado Athletic Trainers Association. B. All applications must include completed official application form and 3 formal letters of recommendation (from coaches, physicians, former athletes, peer athletic trainers, etc.) C. Applications will be narrowed to 4 finalists all of whom will receive an onsite visit from the members of the selection committee. D. All applications must be received by February 29, 2008 of the current school year. E. Those schools applying will be asked to complete a general information form. F.
