Mark Morrissey  November 2001

Schooling:
  • Iowa State University - Math & Industrial Engineering major, until I
    discovered sports medicine

  • Graduated from University of Minnesota - Mankato.  Athletic Training

  • Master's Degree - University of Arizona  (1976 - if age matters),
    Athletic Training

Place of Work:

  • Head athletic trainer/teacher - Shadow Mountain High School, Phoenix, AZ
    3 years

  • Head athletic trainer/ teacher - Smoky Hill High School, Aurora  1979-present

  • I have been the head athletic trainer at a high school for 25 years

  • I have been a speaker at numerous clinics and conferences, worked the NCAA Wrestling Championships 4 times, headed a very strong student athletic trainer program at my school forever, and been a friend, mentor, and guidance counselor for a lot of trainers around the country

Favorite Thing About Being an ATC:

  • Seeing them on the field and in the classroom
  • It is fun to have gotten close to some of them
  • High school sports have been very fun, and I have always felt it may be where we are needed the most

Personal Interests:

  • Kids, high school athletics, and knee
surgeries -- my next, (my 7th), will be my first total knee replacement.

  •  My driving force has been doing it right, and my daughter, who has become a fixture at Smoky Hill athletic events

  • I have given my all to be a part of
the program, and only now, I am trying to slow down, and save a little time for myself.

  • I haven't met a trout stream I didn't like, or a bike trip I didn't enjoy

  • Family is the source of energy, and I really have tried to keep the balance in perspective.  It really is no contest
