CATA Members
I hope this newsletter finds you and yours well. As you will see many people have been quite busy with the efforts of Colorado Athletic Trainers Association (CATA).
I am happy to say that we have been having a fair amount of success on the legislative front – see Jennifer Dougherty’s Legislative Action Task Force Report. In addition to the legislative efforts many people have been working hard to advance the CATA. Please browse the several committee reports to see what a group of very dedicated professionals have been doing for OUR association.
In years past the CATA became sort of a “one headed monster” while we were pursuing legislation. The board of directors identified that trend and has worked hard to see that other efforts – just as important issues – did not get put on the back burner as we continue our legislative quest.
No doubt we want to put our best foot forward and have a successful legislative campaign this time. I do think that our previous experience has demonstrated to us that we can have a successful campaign AND continue to work on “other” issues. I am proud of the effort of all those involved and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
As always if you have any questions comments or concerns or would like to get involved with the CATA please feel free to contact me or any other CATA board member.
Sincerely,
Chris Mathewson President, Colorado Athletic Trainers Association
Colorado Legislative Update
Well we’re off to the races! Hopefully you have all heard by now that The Athletic Trainers Practice Act was introduced as SB 26. We have passed through the Senate Business, Labor, and Technology committee with a 4-3 vote. SB 26 is now assigned to the Senate Appropriations committee and is scheduled to be heard on February 20th. Assuming we pass through this committee we will be calling on all CATA members to do your part by contacting your legislators! When this time comes we will send you step by step instructions on how you can help our effort. We will make every effort to make it as easy as possible for you to do so. We will also be holding a Legislator Social on March 11th. This is an opportunity for us to educate the Legislators about the merits of our bill as well as let them know what wonderful people we Athletic Trainers are! Please stay tuned because we will be sending out information every step of the way!
NATA GAC Update
2009 NATA Hit the Hill Day is scheduled for February 23rd. The GAC committee will also be meeting the weekend prior. Please see the report in the next newsletter for notes on the GAC meeting.
Respectfully submitted, Jennifer Dougherty, MA, ATC LATF Chair, GAC State Representative
CATA Election Committee Report
The 2009 election for President and one Member-at-Large will be conducted using online voting. The election will open April 1st and close April 30th. Members will receive an e-mail and a postcard with the website URL and instructions.
Please contact Robert Ryan if you have any questions or concerns regarding the election process.
Robert Ryan CATA secretary, Election Committee Chair 970-248-1374
Corporate Sponsorship Committee
Corporate sponsorship is doing well. In January, I sent out renewal letters to all current sponsors and potential sponsors. I have received three renewals thus far. I am working on a new sponsorship strategy that I will have ready by the meeting in May. I am planning on having several different options of sponsorship. I have also been working with Carrie to get sponsors for breakfast, lunch, and speakers at the upcoming meeting.
All regional rep positions are filled for the PR Committee. The final two positions were filled by the following CATA members:
Region 1: Christopher Mondragon Region 5: Josh Fullmer
We are working on media contacts for our legislative push.
Excellence in High School Athletic Training Awards will be presented during a Nuggets game during the month of March. Date is TBD. Anyone willing to help out with an athletic training display during the game should contact me for more info.
