CATA NEWSLETTER SUMMER EDITION
CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE NEW COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY STUDENT ATHLETIC TRAINER COMMITTEE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE - SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE SECONDARY SCHOOLS ATHLETIC TRAINING COMMITTEE
July 16, 2008
I hope this newsletter find you and yours well and enjoying the Colorado summer. I am happy to say that the Mathewson household is having one of the best summers we have ever had; we have had a trip to Disney World, days on the Florida beaches, days camping in the Colorado mountains and many, many afternoons spent at Grandma’s pool.
Despite the fact that the summer is somewhat of a “quiet time” with athletic training, as you will see with all the committee reports a LOT is still being done with the Colorado Athletic Trainers Association (CATA). Please browse these articles and if you have questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact either myself or any board member.
Lastly I do want to let you know that the CATA is beginning a plan to support a few legislators in the upcoming November elections. We will be asking our members to contribute both time and money to a few legislators, based on the advice of Charlie Hebeler, CATA lobbyist. We hope to start these activities in mid August.
Have a great summer.
Sincerely,
Chris Mathewson President, Colorado Athletic Trainers Association
The Public Relations Committee is still in the process of filling regional
representative positions. We have filled all but two regions with
representatives. We are still in need of representatives for Regions 1 and 5.
Please see the CATA Public Relations
webpage for region breakdown and let me know if you are interested in filling
one of these spots.
I would like to recognize the following members for their commitment to the CATA
PR committee and volunteering as regional reps. Corporate Sponsorship Committee
The Corporate Sponsorship Committee continues to actively pursue adding more sponsors from around Colorado, not just the Front Range. If you or a company you know are interested in supporting the CATA, please contact Jason McWilliams .
New Assistant Commissioner Named at CHSAA
Harry Waterman has been named as an Assistant Commissioner with the Colorado High School Activities Association.
He takes over for Assistant Commissioner Chuck Howell, who has retired from the Association after a 30-year career as athletic director and the past six years on the CHSAA staff.
Harry has two degrees from the University of Northern Colorado – a B.A. in Kinesiology (1994) and an M.A. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (2000). Waterman has served the past eight years as athletic director/assistant principal at Greeley West High School.

New Student Athletic Trainer Committee to be Formed
In May, the CATA BOD approved the addition of a College/University Student Athletic Trainer Committee. This committee, to be chaired by a soon-to-be appointed certified athletic trainer, will also be represented by an appointed student from each accredited athletic training education program from around the state. The student representatives will work together, discussing relevant issues and building activities that will help develop them into strong young professionals.
The Job Placement Center continues to receive new listings weekly. If you are currently looking for a new position, be sure to check this webpage out. Also, if you have a job placement notice to post, this free service is quick and easy to use and is one of our more popular pages. Just email the webmaster your job placement ad (it will be posted exactly as it is sent) and it will be posted for at least two months!
