PRESIDENT’S LETTER

Dear CATA Members

I hope this newsletter finds you and yours well.  I am happy to say that things are well at my house.

As you will see there are many things going on for the CATA.   Please review this newsletter and learn about all of the efforts that have been going on in OUR association.

As the RMATA is being held in Colorado this year the state will not hold an annual spring clinical symposium.  Per our association by-laws we must hold an association business meeting “in or about May”.  In years past we have held our meeting while at the district meeting.  Due to the physical restraints and the growing needs of the district, we will not be able hold our meeting there.  As a result the board of directors has decided to hold our annual business meeting in early June.  Right now the location and date are still being worked out.   We should have the details to announce in the next week or two.

I hope to see you at the district meeting and our annual business meeting.

Sincerely,

Chris Mathewson

President, Colorado Athletic Trainers Association

Please look out for CATA correspondence that will give specific instruction on the Who, What & How. This information will be coming over the next week multiple times and in many forms, so please be ready!

PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

National Athletic Training Month has come and gone.  While we focused on many events for this past month, I want to encourage everyone to do their part throughout the year to do things to enhance the profession of Athletic Training to the public.  The following are a list of events that took place during National Athletic Training Month.

  1. Jim Gillen awarded 4 awards for Excellence in High School Athletic Training.  The awards were presented on the court prior to the start of the Nuggets game on March 17th.  The winning schools received a $2000 award each and the runner-up schools received $500 awards.  The winners were Elizabeth High School- Jaclyn Lucas, Head Athletic Trainer and Horizon High School- Steve Rath, Head Athletic Trainer.  The runners-up were Wheat Ridge High School- Dan Martinez, Head Athletic Trainer and East High School, Lisa Porter, Head Athletic Trainer.  Congratulations to those schools and their respective athletic trainers for a job well done.

  2. Our new governor, Bill Ritter, declared March as National Athletic Training Month in the state of Colorado.  He signed the proclamation at the capital during the month of March.

  3. Widefield High School Athletic Trainer Bob Tim distributed NATM t-shirts to participants of a shooting contest during halftime of regional basketball games hosted at his high school.

  4. Their was an article printed in the Craig Daily Press on Athletic Trainer Jeff Pleasant.

  5. Lewis-Palmer High School was the site of a 9 News Health Fair.  The health fair was organized by many of the student athletic trainers at the high school.  The fair had more than 35 community health exhibitors.  Student athletic trainers presented a booth on athletic training and distributed NATM shirts and water bottles to participants.  Lewis Palmer High School Athletic Trainer Kevin Margarucci served as a staff sponsor for the event.

These are the only events that were reported.  Please let me know if there were others that occurred so the correct people get credit for their efforts.

Thanks.

Kevin Margarucci
