                    RMATA Annual Symposium March 2004

                    RMATA/District 7 Workshop

                    OTHER NATA CEU OPPORTUNITIES

PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Dear Members,

I hope this newsletter finds you and yours happy and healthy.    Please review this newsletter thoroughly it provides information on upcoming events for our organization.

First and foremost, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers Association (RMATA) will hold our annual clinical symposium, Considerations of the Athletic Hip and Pelvis and annual business meeting at the Omni Interlocken Hotel-Convention Center in Broomfield on March 26-28. Please make arrangements to attend this symposium, it should be a great event.

During years that Colorado is to host the RMATA Annual Meeting we do NOT have a state meeting of our own.  We will have our annual business meeting at the RMATA convention, it will be on Saturday March 27, at 7 pm, following the RMATA business meeting.  We will be discussing the recent appointments to our association, taking nominations for two board positions, and other topics.   CATA by-laws require that 20% of our membership be present, before we can officially conduct business. Please attend this meeting.

Although the CATA is not presenting a clinical symposium in 2004 we are still working hard to provide continuing educational opportunities to our members.  We have arranged a CPR/AED certification meeting, this DOES meet the NATABOC new CPR/AED requirements.    It will be Saturday, April 24, 2004 8 am to 1 pm at Ponderosa High School in Parker.  Cost will be $35.  Registration information is located later in this newsletter.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns regarding the CATA please feel free to contact me or any board member.  We are here to serve our profession and each member of our organization.

I hope to see you all in March at the Omni Interlocken.

 Sincerely,

Chris Mathewson, MSS, ATC, CSCS

President, Colorado Athletic Trainers Association

Cost: $35

Location:  Ponderosa High School, Parker, CO

APPOINTMENTS

Lisa Lear was appointed on January 18, 2004, as our state representative for the Secondary School Athletic Training Committee (SSATC).  Her role is to be an information conduit to this NATA committee for secondary schools issues.    If you have any questions or concerns regarding athletic training at the secondary school level (not CHSAA concerns), please contact Lisa.

Public Relations Report - February 2004

With National Athletic Training month quickly approaching, the public relations committee has been hard at work.  We have various activities in the planning  stages, including: Governors proclamation, high school athletic training awards given by the Nuggets and Avalanche, Public Service Announcements to be aired on television and radio, possible athletic trainer’s nights at the Colorado College Tigers hockey game and Colorado Springs Sky Sox game, informational booths at Health Fairs, and involvement with the Colorado High School Activities Association.
As always, we are asking that all athletic trainers take an active role in promoting National Athletic Training month.  The January issue of the NATA News discusses many ideas and events that anyone can host in their part of the state.  If your school or facility is hosting a Channel 9 Health Fair, we would encourage you to get involved and set up an area to hand out informational material that the NATA has available.  If you have connections with a television or radio station that would be interested in playing a public service announcement, contact me to receive the necessary information.  Many of you have done a wonderful job in the past and we are looking to have even more athletic trainers  getting involved this year.  If you have questions or need help, you can contact any of the members of the public relations committee, they are: Bob Tim, Shaun Carmody, John Salvatore, Kevin Margarucci, PJ Gardner and Joe Fine.

Bob Tim - Public Relations Committee Chairman
