Winter 2003 Newsletter
In this Issue... Dear CATA Members, As I write this last letter to you as President of the CATA I realize that it has been a tremendous past 7 years. I would like to reflect upon a few of the changes that I have seen and believe that these have helped to shape and make the CATA what it is today. * Increased CATA membership. * Creation of a second student scholarship and the addition of the names of Jim Conboy and Dan Libera to these scholarships. * Publication of a quarterly newsletter, which has recently been delivered via the web site. * Increased financial stability and legislative fund reserves. * Increased communication between the CATA Board of Directors and the membership. * CATA web page development (address changes, job listings, board of directors' email, scholarship applications, document availability, etc...). * Increased public relations regarding athletic training in the State of Colorado. * A more effective method of dues payment. * Continued development of a quality symposium. * Staggered terms for the board of directors to help create more consistency. * Combined Constitution and Bylaws. All of these items listed above would not have taken place if it were not for the individuals who have volunteered their time and effort to the CATA. These individuals have either served on various committees, or on the Board of Directors. Additionally there are a few of you that have volunteered to help out either through your work on the constitution and bylaws or through acting as my parliamentarian. Thank you for all of your hard work. I look foreword to watching a new CATA President and Board of Directors continue to assist the CATA in its growth and development. I would like to remind all of you to play an active role within your state association by voicing your opinion or volunteering your time. The limitations of your involvement are up to you. Thank you to all of you for the past 7 years it has been a pleasure to serve as your CATA President. Sincerely, Kelli Sheehan CATA President The CATA will be electing a new President and At-Large member this year. The candidates for President are Chris Mathewson and Gregg Sheehan and for the At-Large position Dominic DiManna and Chris Nagelhout. Candidate bio's and ballots will be mailed in early April and will need to be return postmarked no later than April 30th to be valid. Public Relations Committee Report With National Athletic Training month quickly approaching the
public relations committee has been hard at work. A conference call was
held last month to create our "game plan". At this point we have
completed two activities and have more in the planning stages. 1. Governor Bill Owens has signed an honorary proclamation
declaring March as National Athletic Training month in Colorado. I have
had a few individuals contact me about having the mayor of their city sign a
proclamation. That is great! A copy of the proclamation is on the NATA web
site, or you can contact me and I will fax you a copy. Please inform me if
you receive such a proclamation from your mayor. 2. The Colorado High School Activities Association has agreed to
place and ad in their state wrestling and basketball programs. They will also
make public service announcements during those tournaments. 3. The Channel 9 Health Fairs will be held in April. Many of you have inquired about participating in these at your school or community. We would like to get involved in as many of these as possible. We discussed this at the last CATA meeting and concluded that we can make a better impact on the people who attend the schools and fitness centers. You can find the locations of these health fairs by logging on to their web site: www.9healthfair.org. We are in the process of purchasing water bottles to give away,
along with informational brochures from the NATA. If you plan to participate in
one of these health fairs contact me so I can get you the necessary materials. 4. Many of you have also contacted me about getting your local
newspaper to write an article relating to our profession. That is great!
You can carry this out on your own, however if you need information I will be
glad to help. Please send me any articles that are published, I would like
to keep track of what our state accomplishes. 5. We have discussed the possibility of producing a video to
promote our profession. Earlier this year I put out a call to all ATC's to
send me video clips of them at work. I have not received any, so currently
we are on hold with that project. The March issue of the NATA News was filled with
suggestions for celebrating National Athletic Training Month. I encourage
everyone to get involved and make this a successful event. Once again the CATA is offering two $500 scholarships for students pursuing athletic training as a profession. 1.

CATA Featured Member of the Month The CATA Featured Member of the Month continues to be a
popular attraction to the association’s website. Each month a member of the CATA is chosen (by last
month’s featured member) to be spotlighted on the website. They provide a picture to place with their answers to a few
simple questions that allow visitors to the site to get to know the basics about
them. The idea has been well
received and continues to be one of the most frequently visited pages of the
website. This month’s featured member is
Shaun
Carmody head athletic trainer of Cheyenne Mountain High School. Previously featured CATA members have been…
