Winter/Spring 2002 Newsletter In this Issue...
Dear CATA Member, I hope that this past winter season has been a successful one for you. Over the past few months there have been many things going on with the CATA. The CATA board of directors has been diligently working on the program for the annual meeting. Please check the web site for details and registration material. Chris Mathewson has been working hard to get the information onto the web page so that our membership can be kept informed. Please visit the web site often in order to keep up to date on CATA business. This upcoming April you will be receiving election material in the mail. We will be losing a few of our board members and I would like to encourage you to cast your vote on the ballot and return it as soon as possible. I would like to express my appreciation to Bob Tim (At Large Member for the past 6 years, Chairman of the Public Relations Committee), Larry Willock (Vice President for the past 3 years), and Margie Hunt (Secretary for the past 3 years). Without their hard work and unselfish sharing of their time we would not be where were are today. Please help promote our profession of athletic training within our state during National Athletic Trainers’ Month. Just by talking to people and educating them as to what a certified athletic trainer is and what we do will help tremendously. Lastly, I hope that I will see you at the annual RMATA meeting March 22-24 in Albuquerque New Mexico. Sincerely, Kelli Sheehan CATA President Public Relations Committee Report Governor Bill Owens signed an Honorary Proclamation declaring March as
National Athletic Training Month in Colorado.
The
proclamation can be seen on the CATA web site. We are saddened to hear that Dr. Mary Johnson, ATC, long-time professor of Athletic Training and ATEP Curriculum Director at Metropolitan State College of Denver, passed away Friday, December 28, 2001 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mary, who was deeply committed to athletic training education, also served the NATA as a member of the Journal's editorial board as well as various NATA committees over the years. Mary was equally committed to her family and leaves her husband Carl, four year-old twins; Dylan and Wyatt, and 9 year-old B.J. Cards can be sent to Metro to the address below and they will be forwarded to the family. It is also the intent of the department of Human Performance, Sport, and Leisure studies to establish a memorial scholarship in Mary's name, of which details will be forthcoming. Athletic training has lost a dedicated educator and she will be sorely missed. Sincerely,
Dr. Richard Griswold, ATC The President and one At-Large Member position on the CATA Executive Board will be open for election prior to the 2003 Annual Business Meeting.
