Fall 2002 Newsletter
In this Issue... Dear CATA Member, Once again, we find ourselves busy with our Fall schedules. As usual it is time once again to update you on some CATA items of importance. First, we are coming into the final months of our CEU reporting term. I have been asked by the NATABOC to encourage you to send in your completed CEU form if you have already obtained your required amount of CEU's. By submitting your completed form prior to the deadline you can help facilitate this process. Once your form has been received by the NATABOC it will take 4-6 weeks for the office to process it. The board of directors are currently in the process of planning the annual meeting. We have had great support and continued success from Regis University over the past few years, but felt it was time for a change of venue. Please make a note that we will be holding our annual meeting at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. As soon as we finalize our meeting dates and program we will be posting those on the web site. Keep in mind that this Spring we will be conducting another election. Due to the staggering of our terms we will have a few offices opening up this May (President and At-Large Member). I know that Robert Ryan will be passing along information in the future through mailings, the newsletter and the web site regarding this process. Lastly, please visit the web page and take part in the legislation survey. It is the only way that we will be able to know what your views are on legislation. Additionally, you can tell us what specific goals you would like the CATA to tackle in the future. The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete and the deadline for completion is approaching quickly. Thank you to those of you who have already taken the time to complete the survey. Sincerely, Kelli Sheehan CATA President Elections for the positions of President and one At-Large Member will be held in 2003. The ballots will again be mailed in early April with a return date of early May. Several CATA members did not receive ballots for the 2002 election because their NATA membership was listed as "SUSPENDED" on the February NATA membership list that was used to generate the mailing labels. Your CATA membership dues are included in the District 7 and NATA dues. Please pay your NATA membership dues early to ensure that you have a voice in the upcoming elections.
Public
Relations Report October 2002 I would encourage every athletic trainer to get involved
and help this committee be successful. The NATA has given many suggestions
regarding activities which can be done at any level. (these can be found
in past NATA News issues) Even better than those ideas are your own ideas
which you feel would work in your area. Please feel free to initiate activities As I stated earlier, we are attempting to produce a video,
somewhat like what Utah did and showed at the RMATA two years ago. In
doing this we need to collect footage of ATC's working. If you are able to
get some footage of you in action, either in the training room or on the field,
please send it to me. Our goal is to start putting this video
together in January. If you have any ideas, suggestions or other thoughts that
you would like to share, please contact me or the other members of this
committee. Lets take this campaign to the next level.
The
CATA Needs Member Participation I want to use this article for two purposes. First,
to thank all of the members of the committee for their hard work in contacting
Certified Athletic Trainers across the state and asking their help with the
survey which is currently on the website. Secondly, I want to plead with
the Lastly, please contact Margaret Hunt and confirm that your
information for the membership database is correct. Thanks.
Tips
for Stress Management and Burnout Carrie Haugen It is a busy time of year for all of us and we tend to get
stressed, at least I know I do. Here are some guidelines for dealing with stress
and burnout to hopefully making your job easier. Stress * Stress can be positive or negative. Not enough stress
causes boredom, and too much stress can be overwhelming. * Perception is key – * We cause ourselves stress – we have 100% control over the situation and how we handle them * We hold on to anger and anxiety – they do not hang on to us * Gain control over the important aspects of life and
don’t hold on to minor bumps in the road. * Agree to disagree with athletes and staff. It is ok to
have different thoughts and ideas. * Discuss issues as they arise, so that you can solve
problems immediately. Don’t let them linger.
This will keep problems to a minimum *Establish roles within your staff. This will eliminate
confusion as well as competition. * Park your ego at the door * Recognize your own strength’s and weaknesses. * Note patterns of behavior. Praise those that are
productive, address those that are not. * Try to figure out what triggers defensive behaviors in others, and avoid them the best you can * Talk with coaches about procedures and discuss the importance of teamwork. Be on the same page! * Be proactive. Avoid being reactive * Do not try to do everything |
