CATA Executive Board Election

Robert Ryan was asked to compile data on each of the prospective candidates. Also each candidate was asked the following three questions:

What committees, executive boards or other organizations have your served on?

What direction would you like the CATA to take in the next 3 years?

What qualities can you contribute to the CATA membership?

** Please note that the answers appear as they were received, some are in the first person and some are in the third. No changes to content were made, in order to preserve original remarks.

Please read the candidates responses to the questions and vote for the candidates that you would most like to see represent the CATA in the upcoming three years.

President Candidate:

Kelli Lotito

Years NATA Certified: 8

Years CATA Member: 10

Current Position: Assistant Certified Athletic Trainer, University of Colorado,

Years Certified Experience at Various Settings:

1 High School

6 University/College/ JC

1. I would like to see the CATA increase in both its strength in membership and its ability to provide professional development opportunities for all members. Moreover, the CATA should bolster its efforts in promoting athletic training careers at the clinical, high school, college/university and professional levels.

2. I have served on both the CATA and RMATA executive boards. In 1998, I was appointed as the chairperson for the District 7 scholarship committee (1-year appointment).

3. Self-promotion ranks right up there as one of my least favorite things to do. So, I will say this: what I bring to the CATA are the qualities that I have admired most in my colleges, such as dedication, skill, genuine caring about the organization and its members, and a willingness to fight the good fight. During the past three years, by working with the executive board members, we have been able to increase membership, strengthen the association’s financial condition and provide sound educational meetings. With the continued support of the CATA members, we plan to make even more strides in the upcoming months. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the members for their confidence. They are the keys to the organization, and they will continue to drive its goals.

Vice President Candidate:

2. Larry would like to see greater participation by the membership. He would like to see greater opportunities for continuing education at the state level so that athletic trainers could receive good quality educational programs without having to travel so far. He would also like to see the CATA seek legislative Licensure.

3. Larry has a lot of experience which ranges from before the time that certification was implemented until the present. With his years of experience, and as a curriculum instructor at New Mexico University, Larry feels he can help bridge the… (E-mail ended here)

 Vice President Candidate:

Lisa Tice

Current Position: Certified Athletic Trainer, Front Range Orthopedics

Years Certified Experience at Various Settings:

4 High School/Clinic

1 University/College/JC

1. I have served on the El Paso County School Health Advisory Committee (1994-1997). I currently serve on the NATA Board of Certification.

2. I would like to see the CATA support continued development of educational programs to promote public awareness of the profession. I would like an increased role and a defined commitment with CHSAA. I would like to see increased participation of members with regard to political arenas and public education. We need to promote excellence in educational symposiums and meetings offered within the state of Colorado. I would like to see the CATA members elect leaders for now and the future that will direct us as a proactive state to include areas mentioned above.

3. I am a high energy, motivated ATC concerned with progression of excellence within our profession. I feel I have the time and the dedication for thorough involvement in the CATA.

1. I would like to see increased involvement and interaction of all CATA members. I would like us to become a much more active organization, not only on the state level but also on the district representation level. I would also like to see an increase in the number of educational opportunities (i.e. seminars, workshops) that are offered to our CATA members. I would like to see us continue to investigate and cautiously approach the Licensure issue, and pursue it if Licensure is truly in our best interest.

2. United States Olympic Committee Interdisciplinary Summit on Exercise Induced Asthma, Fall 1995; Interassociation Task Force for the Appropriate Care of the Spine-Injured Athlete, May 1998-present Medical Staff US Olympic Festival 1994, 1995; Medical Staff 1995 United States Pan American Team; Medical Staff 1996 United States Olympic Team; Medical Staff 1997 World University Team

3. I have a strong desire to see our organization improve upon its membership involvement. 2. Bob would like to see the CATA continue to grow and produce educational symposiums as it has the past three years. He would also like to increase the awareness of athletic trainers and the CATA throughout the state. Licensure is an issue which the membership must decide upon. If it chooses to pursue it, then it should be an all out effort to make it happen.

3. Bob has worked as an athletic trainer for 13 years in Colorado and has seen the various progressive phases of the profession, especially at the high school level.
