January 2005
  • CATA BOD meets with Charlie Hebeler (Lobbyist) and Rick Ball (by conference call) Discussion of plans as Legislative session opens and finalizing amendments needed before bill is introduced.
     
  • Legislative Testimony group meets for testimony training. Some members of the LATF, each representing the various practice settings, receive training on how to testify before a Legislative Committee.
     
  • House Bill 1127 Athletic Training Practice Act was introduced and assigned to the Health & Human Services Committee.
     
  • Representative Riesberg meets with lobbyist Charlie Hebeler, Legal Consultant Rick Ball, CATA President Chris Mathewson, Rep Riesbergs constituents and CATA members Mark Peters and Shannon Courtney and LATF Chair Jennifer Dougherty. The meeting primarily included discussion of our bill and plan for upcoming process.
     
  • CATA hosts Legislator Social at the City Grill. CATA members “meet and greet” Legislators in a social environment. It was a great “get to know us” event with a great turnout from our Legislators.
     
  • Scheduled Health & Human Services Committee hearing/testimony for HB 1127 Athletic Training Practice Act
December 2005
  • LATF meeting – follow-up with membership “communication group” contacts/ Legislator contacts.
     
  • Representative Jim Riesberg agrees to carry our “Athletic Training Practice Act” bill
     
  • CATA leadership and lobbyist meet with PT leadership and lobbyist to discuss bill language.
November 2005
  • LATF meeting scheduled for 11/13 –discuss/formalize plans of how to move forward
September 2005
  • Celebration of Athletic Training Dinner 9/24/05

  • October 14 - DORA report comes out

  • CATA BOD meeting – discussion and planning based on DORA review/recommendation

  • Information sent to CATA members on how Ref. C&D will effect our licensure efforts

July/August 2005
  • Hired -  Lobbyist Charlie Hebeler

  • LATF meetings and planning for Celebration of Athletic Training Dinner and Fund-raiser

June 2005
  • LATF meeting, planning fundraising event.

  • Meeting with potential lobbyist for the CATA.

April 2005
  • LATF and CATA BOD attend L.I.M.E. (Leadership, Information, Management, Education) Team Training presented by NATA leaders, Teresa Foster Welch, Tom Koto, Judy Pulice. Denise Fandel from the BOC and Chad Starkey presented via conference call.

  • RMATA Annual Meeting in Phoenix, met with our District 7 Governmental Afffairs Committee Representative.

March 2005
  • Keith Webster, NATA Governmental Affairs Committee Chair addresses CATA members at CATA Annual meeting

  • LATF meets at CATA Annual Meeting , Keith Webster attends

February 2005
  • Western Slope Town Hall Meetings take place in Durango and Grand Junction.

  • February LATF meeting takes place.

  • LATF members begin letter campaign to all ATC's in Colorado

January 2005
  • January LATF Meeting takes place.

  • LATF Members begin phone contact with all ATC's in Colorado.

  • Northern Town Hall Meeting takes place in Ft. Collins.

December 2004
  • LATF meets for first time. Rick Ball presents Legislative Action Plan that the LATF will execute. BOD attends to show their support.

  • LATF agrees to meet the 3rd Sunday of each month.

November 2004

  • Grass Roots effort begins with Town Hall Meetings 

  • 11/8 Town Hall Meeting in Colorado Springs

  • 11/9 Town Hall Meeting in Denver                                   

  • Several additional members join LATF

September 2004

 

  • CATA applies for funding from NATA GAC for 2004

  • Mr. Rick Ball develops Draft legislation

July 2004

  • Chris Mathewson attends Athletic Trainers Regulatory Summit in Salt Lake City.

  • Jennifer Dougherty named Legislative Action Task Force (LATF) Chair

  • LATF begins to form

June 2004

  • Chris Mathewson (CATA President) meets with NATA GAC and District 7 in NATA Annual Meeting in Baltimore. 
  • Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Application for Regulation of a Profession submitted. (15 month review period)
April 2004
  • CATA applied and received a sponsorship grant from NATA for athletic training legislative efforts.

  • CATA BOD hired Mr. Rick Ball as our legal and legislative counsel, with the grant from the NATA

  • Mr. Ball completed a thorough legislative analysis for our state and provided a Legislative Action Plan (LAP). LAP has since been revised and now in final copy.

March 2004

  • CATA BOD meets in Broomfield at RMATA Annual meeting to discuss legislation in Colorado.
  • CATA BOD unanimously passed a resolution to seek legislation for licensure of athletic trainers in the state of Colorado.
  • CATA applied and received funding for 2003 from NATA Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC)
February 2004
  • NATA declares Legislation in all 50 states #1 in Strategic Plan
