                                                               i.      Placement page most popular site receiving 40-50 visits/day lately

1.      Encouraged membership to utilize site to post job vacancies

                                                             ii.      Featured member site is also popular

                                                            iii.      Reminded membership that the newsletters are now on the site – has only received 120-130 total hits as of time of this meeting.

    1. Student athletic trainer committee – Mary Ann Erickson

                                                               i.      Eight high school students attending this years meeting, held in conjunction with the CATA Annual Symposium

                                                             ii.      Will continue to offer an annual meeting.

    1. Public Relations Committee – Bob Tim reported on events completed since last business meeting:

                                                               i.      Colorado Governor proclaimed March Certified Athletic Trainer Month.

                                                             ii.      Public Service Announcements at state high school basketball and wrestling tournaments.

                                                            iii.      Involved in two Channel 9 Health Fairs – Denver and Colorado Springs

1.      Need help with representation by membership at more Health Fairs

                                                           iv.      Purchased PR items, including water bottles, pens and notepads

                                                             v.      Vail and Breckenridge mayors announced March National Athletic Trainers Month.

                                                           vi.      Ted McKercher, ATC – announced he had local television coverage of freshmen orientation

                                                          vii.      PJ Gardner, ATC – spot on Channel 11 News in Colorado Springs, promoting athletic training.  Copy of interview played to membership.

                                                        viii.      Pat Debelo, ATC from Cherry Creek HS – spoke with Colorado School Nurses Association regarding head injury management.

                                                           ix.      Ideas presented for PR for 2003-2004:

1.      Channel 9 Health Fairs

2.      Video compiled of Colorado ATCs in action, to be used later as promotional tool for membership.

3.      Pursue local newspaper contacts and develop stories regarding ATCs.

    1. Election Committee – Robert Ryan

                                                               i.      124 ballots returned, of which only 64 were valid ballots

                                                             ii.      Results:

1.      President – Chris Mathewson

a.       81% of vote

2.      Member at Large – Dominic Dimana

a.       64% of vote

  1. District Report, RMATA Report – Kelli Sheehan

    1. 2003 National Convention

                                                               i.      District members meeting June 26, 2003, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

                                                             ii.      NATA Annual Meeting and National Convention will come west one time every 9 years.  History of low attendance rate for meetings held in western United States.

    1. RMATA is considering developing a western Athletic Trainer Conference and Meeting, to include RMATA, District 8, and District 10.

    2. RMATA Annual Symposium will be hosted by Colorado in 2004.

    3. Announced vacancy in Secondary School Committee for District 7.

                                                               i.      Contact RMATA board member if interested in serving on committee

    1. Reminder to check the NATA website regarding updated HIPAA information.

    2. Reminder to membership to update NATA and CATA with any address changes.

    3. NATA members can download and print their NATA membership cards from the NATA website.

  1. Unfinished Business – none reported

  2. New Business

    1. Legislative survey results posted on CATA website.

                                                               i.      Poor survey return – total of 53.

  1. Other new business, for the good of the order:

    1. Outstanding High School Athletic Training Program Award – concept developed and presented by Jim Gillen, ATC

                                                               i.      Financially supported by Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, and physician donation.

                                                             ii.      Money is to be used for athletic training program

                                                            iii.      Still developing criteria for award

                                                           iv.      Plan to present award in March, in conjunction with National Athletic Trainer Month

                                                             v.      Jim would like to have enough financial backing to present two awards; one during an Avalanche game and one during a Nuggets game.

1.      Timing of presentation of award would help promote and recognize ATCs as well as local sport teams/organizations.

                                                           vi.      Requested input from high school ATCs regarding award criteria and involvement in selection committee.

    1. Volunteers needed for helping with hosting the 2004 District Meeting, held at the Omni Interlocken, Broomfield, CO March 26-28, 2004.

                                                               i.      Contact Margaret Hunt if interested in volunteering

    1. Congratulations extended to Mesa State College on their CAAHEP accreditation.

    2. Recognition of outgoing board members for services rendered and dedication to organizations growth – Kelli Sheehan, President and Mark Adams, At Large Member

    3. Thank you’s extended to Connie Larson, CATA Parliamentarian and all Committee Heads for services rendered.

  1. Motion to adjourn meeting by Jacquelyn Lucas, 2nd by Dominic Delano.  Meeting adjourned without objection.
